Another crime witnessed - gang beating up a student
Ms Poh Hu Li, a citizen from Vic Street witnessed a gang fight at the carpark last week, where a school boy is beaten up by a gang of 4 other older boys. She was interviewed and she said "I saw a school boy get beatten up by 4 others older boys, i tried to stop them by threatening to call the police, however they pushed me away and continued to beat up the school boy. There was no respect and fear in them at all, teenagers are becoming more rebellious, i feel that we need to do something serious about it."
More Vandalism
Mrs Vejaya, a citizen from Vic Street has encountered vandalism on cars too in the carpark. She was interviewed and she said "Now days, i realized so many crimes such as vandalism, high-rise littering, shop-lifting and robberies. I also experienced a similar vandalism last month. That night, i rushed out to pick my children back to home from school, in the carpark, i was shocked see that many of the cars were sprayed with paint and scratched. I couldn't believe so many crimes are happening my my neighbourhood"
Student witnessing car vandalism
Mrs Tan Bee Wee, a citizen of Vic Street and a student from Republic Polytechnic, witnessed a life car vandalism case 2 months ago. She lives at block 3 which was facing the carpark. She was interviewed and she said "I had witnessed someone vandalising a car during 12 in the afternoon. I was waiting for my friend at my block when i saw a suspicious man who was pouring red paint on a car. He was wearing a simple black T - shirt, a blue cap and pair of jeans. He ran away once i saw him. His height is about 1.7+ cm. This was the first time i witnessed this kind of situation and did not know what to do."
Tips to prevent vandalism
Here are some tips given by CPL Lim, a young police from the neighbourhood police post, to help reduce vandalism around the neighbourhood:
- Education, consequences of vandalism can be spread around the neighbourhood.
- Citizens in the neighbourhood can keep a lookout for each other.
- Make sure security cameras in the area are working well.
- Work with the police forces, making sure patrol is made regularly.
- Inform police immediately when needed.
Most importantly, citizens in the neighbourhood must work together as well as working together as the police forces.
Crime in carpark
On a late night on thursday,19-october-2009, Jon Yen, one of the citizen in Vic Street was parking car at block 10 level 3 multi-storey carpark, he saw cars that are sprayed with paints and scratched. So obviously there are vandals that are making trouble around the neighbourhood of Vic Street.
Since there are this kind of incidents have been happening around the neighbourhood, citizens should lookout for each other and inform suspicious characters in our neighbourhoods.
